Just 15 minutes from our apartment in Montiano, you can reach a different stunning beach every day of your holiday.

Feniglia Beach

Feniglia is a spectacular 6-kilometre stretch of golden sand connecting Monte Argentario to the mainland. Backed by a pristine pine forest nature reserve - the Duna Feniglia - this is one of the most iconic Maremma beaches. The water is shallow and calm, making it ideal for families with children. The western end has well-equipped beach clubs (stabilimenti balneari) with sunbeds and restaurants, while the eastern half remains wild and free. Parking is available at both ends, with a small daily fee in summer. Walk or cycle through the pine forest to find your own private spot along the shore.

Cala Piccola

Tucked on the western side of Monte Argentario, Cala Piccola beach is a rugged, romantic cove framed by Mediterranean scrub and granite rocks. The water here is an extraordinary shade of turquoise, perfect for snorkeling among the rocks. Access is via a steep path from the road above - wear sturdy shoes. There are no facilities, so bring water and a picnic. The effort of reaching Cala Piccola is rewarded with one of the most photogenic settings on the entire Tuscan coast.

Cala del Gesso

Widely regarded as the most beautiful beach on Monte Argentario, Cala del Gesso is a small pebble bay with incredibly transparent water. The cove faces the tiny island of Argentarola, and on calm days the sea looks almost Caribbean. Getting there involves a 15-minute walk down a steep, rocky path, so good footwear is essential. There is limited parking along the road above. Arrive early in July and August, as the beach fills up quickly. Snorkeling here is outstanding - expect to see colourful fish, octopus and rich posidonia meadows just metres from shore.

Talamone Beach

The beaches around the medieval village of Talamone offer a completely different atmosphere. Exposed to the prevailing Maestrale wind, Talamone is famous for kitesurfing and windsurfing. The main beach stretches north towards the mouth of the Osa river, with dark sand and views of the Uccellina mountains in Parco della Maremma. It is a wild, unspoiled spot with free access and basic parking. Talamone itself is well worth a visit for its clifftop fortress and excellent seafood restaurants overlooking the harbour.

La Giannella

Running parallel to Feniglia on the opposite side of the Orbetello lagoon, La Giannella is a long sandy beach facing west - ideal for spectacular sunsets. The gently sloping seabed and calm water make it another excellent family choice. Several beach clubs line the main road, offering sunbeds, showers and casual dining. Free stretches of beach are also easy to find. Parking is straightforward along the road, and the beach is just a 10-minute drive from Montiano.

With such variety of Argentario beaches all within easy reach, our apartment in Montiano provides the perfect base for a sun-soaked Maremma holiday. Whether you prefer the wild beauty of Cala del Gesso, the family-friendly sands of Feniglia, or the wind-swept excitement of Talamone, you'll never run out of coastline to explore.
